Here's a rather nice touch to the movie. A scientist thought dead kept alive by
keeping his brain in a jar with wires and machinery, which translates
into bio technology. But that will be explained soon enough. Let's go
back a little shall we...to the beginning.
The scene opens up in an arctic like mountain area. An energy blast
echoes from the distance. Turns out to be Piccolo trying to penetrate
the ice for reasons yet unknown. We now see a close-up of the dragonball
radar showing four Dragonballs collected, now five. Wait, now six. We
now see that Oolong and Gohan are in that same icy mountain area
secretly investigating a mysterious gathering of the Dragonballs which
led them to this location. Oolong makes sure that Gohan didn't tell
anyone where they went and why. We now see a mysterious old guy
summoning the Eternal Dragon. The dragon appears and asks for the old
guys wish. The old guy tells the dragon that his mentor, Dr. Willow is
sealed inside the icy tombs before him and wants the dragon to melt the
ice so he can go inside and wake him up. The dragon grants his wish and
with a flash of light from his eyes, the ice all around him breaks apart
and melts away. The dragon bids farewell and disappears with the
Dragonballs as they scatter across the globe. The old guy declares
revenge after 50 years of waiting, the world will be theirs. And we are
shown a huge fortress that now sits in place of the now melted ice.
Gohan and Oolong notice this fortress and sense the creepiness coming
from that place. Oolong wants to book, but Gohan is rather curious about
how to get in.
But before Oolong can get far, some strange creature
appears from the snow with large red eyes. Gohan tries to intercept, but
three more of those strange creatures appear and surround Gohan and
proceed to beat the stuffing out of him. But the assault is short lived
when a hand grabs the wrist of one of the creatures. It's Piccolo to
save the day. Gohan is glad to see him and Oolong just falls down,
exhausted. Piccolo gets surrounded by all four of the creatures and they
strike. But Piccolo holds his own as he battles them all at once. After
sending one of them flying skyward, he unleashes a mouth blast that
blows it up. The remaining three creatures are down and out. Gohan
suddenly faints. But Piccolo realizes he has more company as he sees
three larger creatures, each with their own appearance and much more
menacing. But before anything can happen, a rush of purplish pink energy
engulfs Piccolo and neutralizes him. Fade to white. Gohan recovers and
looks for Piccolo, but only Oolong is still there. He wakes him and they
try to make sense of what happened. Oolong insists that Gohan not reveal
what happened to anyone. They escape the icy debris and head on.
Meanwhile, back at Goku's house, Chi Chi argues with Goku about Gohan
finally returning after being gone three days without where and what he
was doing. She as usual, blames Goku for this including why Gohan
doesn't like to study. But Goku just insists that as long as Gohan is
healthy and happy, it's all that matters to him. But Chi Chi disagrees.
The two argue a little more as Gohan is in his room doing some studying.
He takes a break and ponders Oolong's words of not saying anything. He
thinks about where Piccolo went and starts day dreaming about his future
as a scholar which I'll leave to your imagination or if you saw it
already. His day dream shifts to his relationship with Piccolo and how
he looks up to him. It ends with his remembering Piccolo sacrificing
himself to save Gohan at the hands of Nappa. Chi Chi finally manages to
wake him up for dinner.
Over at Master Roshi's, Oolong complains about
cooking dinner with Bulma. The doorbell rings. Roshi's turtle answers
it. It's those creatures that Piccolo first fount and defeated asking
for Master Roshi. Roshi comes to the door and asks what they want. They
want him to go with them to see Dr. Willow. Roshi refuses and the
creatures attack. But Roshi defeats them single handedly. He then hears
clapping and turns back around to see that old guy complimenting him on
his fighting skills and asks him to go with him to see Dr. Willow. But
Roshi still refuses. But suddenly, Bulma insists that he go because
those creatures have her and that forces Roshi to accept. They leave in
some weird transport in the water. Oolong goes back and tells Goku about
what happened, but Goku feels there's nothing to worry about because
Roshi is a master of the martial arts. Oolong tells him that Bulma and
Roshi were taken to the Zomite Zumbie (Not sure how it's spelled or
pronounced because I can't hear it clearly) Mountains. Chi Chi scorns
Gohan for hanging around Piccolo. Goku leaps to action and calls the
flying nimbus. After taking off, Gohan tries to sneak away. But Chi Chi
knows better.
Back at the fortress, Roshi gets impatient and wants
answers. The old guy tells Dr. Willow of Roshi's arrival and sets his
plans in motion. Bulma drops out of sight and Master Roshi is bathed in
white light. He looks to a large doorway to see three unknown creatures
which the old guy reveals to be biotechnical warriors. The fat one is
Minshokatsun, the short one in the middle is Kishime, and the one on the
right is Ebifuraiya. Roshi comments on the old guy flattering him with
being the strongest in the world and stands ready for battle. The white
lights are replaced by surrounding arena lights to fully reveal the
arena. The fight begins as all three fighters take on the master of the
martial arts at the same time. At first, he's holding his own. After
putting some distance between himself and the fighters, he charges a
Kamehameha Wave and fires it at the three warriors. Two of them dodge
it, but Minshokatsun takes it full force in the stomach. Being fat and
rubbery like, the blast pushes his stomach inward a few yards. But
Minshokatsun just tightens his stomach back up and deflects the blast
right back at him, who dodges it at the last second. Before Roshi can
react, Ebifuraiya lands a hard punch that sends him flying and Kishime
uses an electrically charged whip to incapacitate him. Roshi is
defeated. The old guy is surprised that Master Roshi could be defeated
so easily. Bulma is upset and tells him that Master Roshi was the
strongest fighter fifty years ago, but she knows who is much stronger
now.
This arouses the old guy's curiosity as well as Dr. Willow's. Bulma
learns on Dr. Willow and the old guy who finally reveals himself as Dr.
Willow's assistant, Dr. Kochin, an expert in bio technology. Bulma
recalls their controversial experiments with bio technology over fifty
years ago. Dr. Kochin confirms this. Bulma is also surprised because she
remembers learning that when they were conducting experiments in the
Zomite Zumbie Mountains, an avalanche supposedly killed the two. But Dr.
Kochin reassures her that they are both alive. With that, he reveals the
identity of Dr. Willow in the form of a brain encased in glass attached
to a robotic head. Dr. Kochin explains that after the avalanche, Dr.
Willow's body died from the cold, but his brain survived thanks to his
scientific genius. Bulma says the avalanche was believed to be a
punishment sent from the heavens to stop their inhumane experiments. But
before an argument ensues, Dr. Willow asks again who the strongest
fighter is. Bulma easily points out that Goku is the strongest and brags
a little about him. Dr. Willow asks where he is. But Bulma is hesitant
to answer. Dr. Kochin tries to convince her of the possibility of having
the greatest scientific mind in the world and the strongest fighter in
the world. Dr. Kochin declares that Dr. Willow would take over the
world. Dr. Willow vows that he'll get his revenge on those who doubted
him. Bulma doesn't believe he can do this. But Dr. Kochin reminds her of
a disaster at South City in a small forest that was mysteriously
destroyed and points out it was them two the whole time and another one
of their successful experiments. Dr. Willow senses Goku's approach and
is excited about the power he feels coming from him.
Back at Chi Chi's
house, Chi Chi worries about how Gohan is slipping away, having took off
to help his dad. Just outside the fortress, Dr. Kochin confirms that it
is Goku and teases him to come in, which Goku leaps off the nimbus to do
just that. After suffering a little from the cold, Dr. Willow has Dr.
Kochin send the bio warriors to attack. Minshokatsun starts off with a
surprise attack from under the ice which only makes Goku even colder
from the freezing water. After a few missed punches, Goku lands one in
the stomach, but Minshokatsun just absorbs it. Goku then lands a jump
kick that knocks Minshokatsun back into the water. Goku back flips,
slips, and slides into the fortress. The cold makes it hard for Goku to
power up. He ends up in a large room with several black metal spheres.
After a brief moment, spikes emerge from the spheres and the spheres
start spinning rapidly and fly at Goku. He barely manages to avoid them
and gets serious by using rapid fire energy blasts to destroy them all.
Minshokatsun immediately reappears and connects a punch that drives Goku
into the wall. Goku escapes another punch and tries to come back with a
kick into Minshokatsun's back, but his flabbiness only absorbs the kick
once again. Goku uses another weapon in his arsenal and flies up at
Minshokatsun and uses everything he has to push his way completely
through the creature. Just as he can't go any further, he uses the
Kaioken as a boost and finally punches completely through Minshokatsun,
deflating and destroying him.
Dr. Willow and Dr. Kochin are stunned as
they continue to watch the fight. Goku takes on Ebifuraiya next. That
one is seemingly short lived when in a flash, Goku knocks Ebifuraiya
down with a very fast punch. Kishime is next up as he uses a special
evasive technique to elude Goku's attacks. After trying to figure out
Kishime's moves, Kishime lands a kick from behind and along with
Ebifuraiya, sends Goku into a wall. Goku comes back with a vicious
assault and anticipates Kishime's evasive maneuver and knocks him down
then scores another knockout on Ebifuraiya. Suddenly, Goku gets nailed
by Kishime's electric whip and Ebifuraiya fires an ice beam that sends
Goku flying. Ebifuraiya uses the ice beam again and freezes Goku's foot,
then the rest of his body. All seems lost when Gohan and Krillin arrive
on the scene. Ebifuraiya fires his ice beam, but Krillin and Gohan use a
combined energy blast to stop the beam. Kishime goes for Gohan, but
Krillin rams him aside. Kishime jumps back and exposes several of those
whips from his body and catches both Gohan and Krillin in the
electrically charged whips and incapacitates them both. Kishime keeps
inflicting pain to Krillin and Gohan. Goku, still frozen gets really
pissed off and charges the Kaioken. Ebifuraiya sends Krillin and Gohan
packing with the ice beam. At this point, Goku has had enough and
explodes the ice surrounding him in a fiery charged Kaioken. Ebifuraiya
fires his ice beam at Goku, but has no effect as Goku lands a kick the
sends Ebifuraiya streaking backwards right through a wall. Goku then
nails Kishime with a kick and drives him into the ground, defeating them
both. Goku goes over to the two large ice chunks that have Krillin and
Gohan in them and goes to free them as Dr. Willow concludes that Goku is
the one he will take over.
Goku, Gohan, and Krillin make their way to
the main chamber where Master Roshi and Bulma is. They come to a huge
towerlike structure and decide the only way to go is up and fly to the
top to find Bulma. Goku goes to free her, but runs into a powerful
energy barrier that knocks Goku backwards. Dr. Kochin lights up a large
monitor behind them that shows them closeup and commends Goku for being
ther strongest. Goku demands where Master Roshi is, but Dr. Kochin
taunts him by saying he might turn him into another creation. Gohan
spots Dr. Willow and Krillin is dumbfounded as Bulma explains who he is.
Dr. Kochin explains how Dr. Willow is being kept alive using bio
technology. He explains that it was as if the heavens were jealous of
Dr. Willow's scientific geniousand and sealed in an icy tomb. Dr. Willow
tries to convince Goku of going along with his plans. But Goku wants
nothing of it. Dr. Willow just says that Goku's body will be his whether
he wants to or not. And the purplish pink energy that engulfed piccolo
back in the beginning engulfs Goku, rendering him agonizing pain. Gohan
yells out for Dr. Willow to stop and tries to stop him, but Dr. Willow
just knocks Gohan down with an exertion of energy. Krillin tries to
help, but runs into none other than Piccolo. But Piccolo isn't himself
as he has these weird gold colored curvy rods on his head and his eyes
are a light red.
Master Roshi makes his way down to the chamber slowly
recovering. Goku manages to free himself from the energy barrier. Gohan
is happy to see Piccolo. But Goku warns him that Piccolo is evil again.
But it's too late when Piccolo knocks Gohan down with a punch. Goku and
Piccolo begin to do battle. Gohan and Krillin turn their sights to Dr.
Kochin. Gohan starts to let his rage surface as Goku tries to get
Piccolo to stop, but to no avail. Gohan tries to reason with Piccolo.
Still no success. Krillin tries to free Bulma, but can't. Gohan grabs
Piccolo, trying to stop him, but Piccolo goes to attack him when Goku
saves him. Goku does another quick round with him. Gohan tries again to
stop Piccolo. But this time, Piccolo charges an energy blast. But right
before he fires it at Gohan, Goku steps in and deflects the blast in
another direction. This diverts Piccolo's attention back to Goku. Now
Gohan is raging mad and turns towards Dr. Willow and yells that it's all
his fault and unleashes a powerful burst of energy that cracks the
alcove that Dr. Willow is in. Gohan is steaming mad as Dr. Kochin just
taunts the boy. But Dr. Willow knows better and warns Dr. Kochin not to
make him angrier. Dr. Kochin uses a weirdly shaped staff and opens up
the top and fires an energy blast at Gohan. But Gohan manages to deflect
the blast and in another burst of rage, unleashes another intense burst
of energy that really shakes Dr. Willow loose from his alcove and almost
brings the entire area down as well. On top of that, the rods on
Piccolo's head crack. Dr. Kochin goes for his staff again, but Krillin
kicks it away and demands that Bulma be released. Instead, Dr. Kochin
turns his left hand into a machine gun and fires at Krillin who runs
like crazy to dodge the bullets. Krillin runs in front of the energy
barrier that Bulma is trapped in and moves out of the way as Dr. Kochin
ends up firing on the barrier and the controls cutting power to the
barrier. Just as Dr. Kochin goes for a clean shot, Master Roshi appears
from above and knocks the machine gun arm right off of him. The rods on
Piccolo fall off and he's back to normal.
Dr. Willow compliments on Goku
being able to get as far as he did and breaks himself out of the alcove,
and whether it was intentional or not, knocks the ground out from under
Dr. Kochin, sending him on a free fall. The tower that Goku, Krillin,
and Gohan flew up and over starts to light up and we see Dr. Kochin
still falling. The energy coming from the tower causes Dr. Kochin to
explode. At the top, Dr. Willow has revealed his complete form which
includes a metallic body to go with his glass jar head with a brain
inside. The Z Fighters tense for a fight. Piccolo tries to get back at
Dr. Willow and charges him. But Dr. Willow just stops him with a mere
exertion of energy and bats him aside. Dr. Willow leaps into the air to
strike. Master Roshi calls for the Kamehameha and him, Goku, and Krillin
do a triple Kamehameha on Dr. Willow, but it has no effect. Dr. Willow
bats Roshi into a wall and fires an energy blast that takes him out.
Gohan tries his luck and uses the power pole, but also get's knocked
down by Dr. Willow's tail on the back of his huge metallic body. Piccolo
catches him as Goku catches the power pole. Dr. Willow fires another
energy blast that Goku manages to avoid and does a power pole extend and
trips Dr. Willow off his feet. That allows for Piccolo to get above him
and get off several energy blasts that seem to work. But out of the dust
comes Dr. Willow shooting upward right into Piccolo, ramming him right
into the ceiling, knocking him out. Goku uses the Kaioken X3 and knocks
off one of Dr. Willow's arms. The move momentarily has Goku exhausted.
But he fires up the Kaioken again and fires a Kamehameha Wave at Dr.
Willow, who fires a mouth blast with both blast colliding trying to
overtake the other. At first, Dr. Willow's blast nearly overtakes Goku,
but Goku uses a burst of power to intensify his blast and overtakes Dr.
Willow. The shockwave nearly sends Bulma flying back as the Kamehameha
totally destroys the roof of the fortress and sends Dr. Willow flying.
Goku is exhausted at this point. But he knows it's not over yet.
Dr. Willow is now in the upper part of the atmosphere and decides to destroy
the Earth. The tower starts to emit energy aimed at Dr. Willow above the
Earth, seemingly to charge up for a huge blast. After telling everyone
to leave, Goku prepares a Spirit Bomb. He throws his arms up to gather
the energy. Dr. Willow notices the energy moving around the Earth as
Goku continues to gather the energy. Goku completes the Spirit Bomb. But
before he could use it, Dr. Willow fires rapid energy blasts that catch
Goku off guard. Gohan sees his dad out cold and takes off for Dr. Willow
in anger. Piccolo joins him as the two continue their ascent and Dr.
Willow starts to descend toward them. Gohan rams Dr. Willow in the
stomach area and Piccolo fires a mouth blast at his glass encased brain
at point blank range, cracking the glass. Krillin also tries to attack,
but gets swatted away again (Poor Krillin lol). Goku comes to as Dr.
Willow powers up to destroy the three fighters and the Earth. Goku still
has the Spirit Bomb and as Dr. Willow fires at the planet, Goku throws
the Spirit Bomb upwards. The two energies collide and the Spirit Bomb is
overpowering Dr. Willow's blast. The Z Fighters watch almost in awe as
the Spirit Bomb punches all the way through Dr. Willow's blast and
passes by them as they sense all the people, who loaned the energy that
made it
possible.
The Spirit Bomb hits its mark and the impact shatters the
glass protecting Dr. Willow's brain and sends him, body and all,
plummeting spaceward and explodes. The tower down where the fortress
stood also destructs in a blinding light. With debris everywhere, Master
Roshi finds Goku, who is still alive but battered and bruised.
Everyone's happy to see him. Piccolo starts to walk away and gives Gohan
credit for making the victory possible. As the narrator concludes the
movie, Roshi comments that he did like one thing about Dr. Willow and
that was he thought that he (Roshi) was the strongest fighter in the
world. But Bulma bursts his proverbial bubble by saying that no one told
him that Roshi is just a dirty old man. Everyone (almost everyone)
breaks out laughing as the movie ends.
Personal
Rating: 7/10
My
Opinion: This movie was not bad. It had some cool moments throughout
the movie, namely the battles. Seeing Master Roshi fight is something
you don't see everyday so that was a nice touch. Goku really kicked
ass in this movie when he toppled all of Dr. Willow's obstacles. And
let's not forget Gohan's fiery temper when he gets very angry. And
the big battle with Dr. Willow at the end with all those energy blasts
being exchanges was an eyeful, and that kept the action pumped up.
There was minimal mushiness which also saved face in this movie. The
downside to this movie was that ridiculous day dream Gohan had.
Perhaps it has to do with me being 23, but hearing that noise you call
a voice, singing made me want to gag. That and Chi Chi. Why her? If
you were powerful enough to blow up the moon for example, would you
let your mom boss you around like that, no matter what your age is?
Those two elements are what made the movie suffer to a 7 out of 10.
But hey, it's still a kickass movie and regardless of its faults is
still worth watching.
